Cultivating Stillness

In meditation, we cultivate a deep sense of Oneness and stillness. When we cultivate this stillness, the mind races less; it searches for happiness less; it searches for connectivity less, because it has it. When it’s operating in a state of fulfillment, then the outer world is simply a place to play instead of place we expect to deliver our fulfillment and sense of ok-ness.

In our efforts to meditate, it may seem as if we have to pull ourself away from our loved ones, from our family, our work, our friends, and our social activities so we can sit and do this thing that is “alone.” But ultimately it is the greatest way to connect with all of that–far beyond anything that we can do when we’re operating habitually through our protective personality.

When we can drop into the essential self, into that authenticity, we are automatically connecting in truth, in honesty and integrity in all kinds of circumstances.

There is a healing that can happen under these conditions that cannot happen when we’re “trying and efforting.” In the stillness, we can touch the deep and peaceful sense of Self that everyone seeks.
