Sometimes we say, “I really want to meet some new friends.” And then the doorbell rings. We get up and go to the door, and we look through that peephole and don’t recognize the person. So we say, “I’m not answering that door, I don’t know who you are.” Right?
That’s happening in our lives all the time. We hold fast to the way things are, and then we complain that we want them to be different. But we’re so attached!
Do you know why we’re attached to the way things are? Because our identity is hooked up in it, and that’s all protective personality stuff. That’s all it is.
So, you want to get into the passionate self? For that, you need to step back into the essential self.
When consciousness is expanding, when your life is expanding, when you’re growing, an impulse rises inside you. That impulse looks like a void. We often hear “All the answers are inside of you,” and we look and see nothing. When this happens, it’s time to celebrate! That’s the stranger at the door. What appears to be a void is really more of you showing up.
Your dreams and desires aren’t supposed to be only that. They’re supposed to be the description of your life. You would not want what you want if you weren’t supposed to have what you want. You would be wanting something else.
If you feel that you are not as passionate or in touch with your passions as you would like to be, or that you know what your passions are but don’t seem to be able to get them to manifest in your life, there is a reason for that. It is because the energy isn’t flowing through you the way that it is intended to. When it does, your passions will be all that you know. Your passions will be manifesting, rolling out for you because that is the way it is meant to be.
Everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. Your life is out-picturing in a particular way because those are the frequencies at which (and as which) you are resonating. It boils down to your core beliefs about yourself, and the integration and the release of old things that you used to have a misperception about that perhaps you’re trying to rewire in your life. It also includes all the things that have been sitting dormant inside you that have just never really had an opportunity to be activated, to be turned on. You have the power to activate, to turn on.
Ultimately, I’m not interested in you wanting anything. I’m interested in you having. In order to have, we have to learn how to become something. We get to learn how to consciously become a different energy frequency.
How do we get the mind to participate with the heart? The heart operates as nature does, on the same wave pattern.
Learning to meditate, then, can be quite simple. It can as simple as learning to slow the breathing so that it begins to feel the way it feels to hold a lit candle while walking across a room in a manner conscious not to extinguish the candle. The flame moves and responds in the flow of what is, and it remains alight. Meanwhile, we can pay attention to what we feel inside the body in the same moment. When we do this, we dial in to a frequency of nature. From there, we begin to get in touch with our essence.
The breath provides a gateway to open up to an entirely different way of interpreting life. And when our interpretation expands, so does our experience.
Meditation is not about escaping this world to get into some “better place.” It is about bringing what we experience in those deep moments of silence and bringing it home, here, into this body. This shifts our perspective, it shifts how the body functions, shifts its very chemistry, shifts our orientation of who we think we are and what we believe is possible. We can drop further and further into the core, and get in touch with this true version of who we are instead of staying identified with the protective version that we have created.
If there is anything that isn’t happening in your life the way that you would like it to, know that it can get there through an avenue very different from what you have anticipated. Perhaps in the past you have felt blindsided by events, and perhaps you may begin to see such circumstances as course-corrections, as being there to serve rather than hinder you.
A shift begins when we decide to just sit down quietly, focusing inward, strong in the spine, and conscious of the breath. Quietly lean in to what is, right now, right here, in this moment.
In meditation, we connect different circuits in our awareness. I would love for you always to have that connection between your mind, the breath, and the body.
We are the breath. The true You is the breath. It’s not the mind, although the mind loves to take that whole identity and run with it. If we can keep our identity apart from the mind, then we are practically home-free in benefiting from any kind of meditative practice.
The number one focus of meditation is to identify the consciousness with its true self, with its essential truth. The very first step that we can take along those lines is to identify ourselves in the body AS the breath.
Am I trying to “find my breath?” Then I am not identified as the breath, but as the mindlooking for the breath.
If we are going to be fragmented into these pieces and parts, our job is to layer and marry them, to merge them in the course of our lives. As we do that, we feel reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and increased healing. We experience greater clarity as we begin to get in touch with the divine within.
